Why was the App created?

The current resources available to help passengers use the bus system are:

  • The schedules produced by Bus Vannin. These are available both in printed form and for download as PDF files.
  • The findmybus App. This is available both as an app and as a web page. It provides live positions of the buses.
  • Bustimes.org. This site provides both schedule information and live bus positions
The schedules are an excellent source for the bus schedules. But they are just static timetables. If there are diversions then the passengers need to be scouring the Bus Vannin web pages for information. Few residents do this and it is almost impossible for visitors to do this. The diversions are well described but they do assume the reader has local knowledge. It is almost impossible for visitors to keep up with the diversions. It's not just the diversions but extra buses too. Extra buses are often provided for visitors who struggle to find out about them. And then there's the TT Course and Billown Course closures. Bus Vannin is experienced at handling the course closures. The Island needs an app that is also capable of handling course closures and can provide bus routes to the desired destination during race periods. Findmybus is a great app for those are are familiar with the bus routes and know which bus they want. However it is not designed to help visitors who will not know which bus to take or which bus stop to go to.
